Dressing for Your Body Type: Flattering Looks for Every Shape

There are five basic body types. Knowing which one you are will help you choose clothing that will flatter your figure. The five body types are:

1. Rectangle: You have a straight up-and-down figure. Your hips and bust are about the same size, and you have little or no waist definition. To create the illusion of curves, try clothing with ruffles, pleats, or other details around the bust or hips. A-line skirts are also flattering.

2. Triangle: You have a large bust and hips, and a smaller waist. To balance your proportions, try tops with details around the neckline or shoulders. A-line skirts and pants with a flared leg will also help balance your figure.

3. Inverted Triangle: You have a large bust and shoulders, and a smaller waist and hips. To balance your proportions, try tops that are lower-cut or have details around the hips. Skirts and pants with a flared leg will also help balance your figure.

4. Oval: You have a rounder figure. To flatter your shape, try clothing with vertical details, like stripes or seams. A-line skirts and pants are also flattering.
